Roy Dror and Harel Mor won gold medals today at the GT Open in Luxembourg, part of the World Series circuit. Dror claimed the men’s recurve senior title, while Harel Mor won the U21 category, setting a new Israeli youth indoor record of 587 points.

Dror (Kashatey Kochav HaSharon) opened the competition in perfect form, finishing first in qualification with 592 points. In the elimination rounds he showed complete dominance through the first three matches, winning by wide margins. In the semifinals he dropped a set for the first time, but ultimately defeated France’s Florent Boussard 6–4.

In the final, Dror faced his toughest opponent — Dutch archer William Bakker, who had placed second in qualification. The first three sets ended in a tie, with both archers shooting perfect scores. In the fourth set, Dror scored a 9 for the first time, giving Bakker the lead. The pressure then swung to the Dutchman, who opened the next set with a 9 of his own, leaving the door open for Dror to level the match — which he did with three perfect 10s.

Both archers advanced to a decisive shoot-off. They each shot a 10, but Dror’s arrow was closer to the center, securing the gold.

“It was a really successful competition — the best of the three in the past few weeks,” Dror said. “I’m coming home from the tour with a lot of insights about what I need to do to level up. For this tournament I changed how I approached things right from the start. I managed to enjoy the qualification round enormously, and the whole event, and in the end it shows. When I enjoy the process, I perform.”

Harel Mor (Maccabi Tel Aviv) was also unstoppable on his way to U21 recurve gold. He finished first in qualification with 587 points, setting a new Israeli youth indoor record and improving the previous record of 583 — held by Roy Dror and set exactly three years ago.

Mor, only 16 years old, is a cadet competing in the junior category, making this achievement particularly impressive. His path to gold was smooth with decisive wins in the first four elimination rounds, but in the final — against Slovenia’s Gal Frank (ranked 6th in qualification) — he entered a tight and gripping battle. After five sets, the score was tied, with the lead shifting back and forth.

In the shoot-off, Mor delivered a strong 10, while the Slovenian shot a 9, giving the gold to the Israeli archer.

Mor summed up the event:

“When I flew here I was a bit hesitant — I wasn’t sure how ready I was. Throughout the competition there were good wins, but I felt each one came with a lot of effort. The final was really unpredictable. It was fun, in a way, because it was a situation I’m not entirely used to, but I also felt I wasn’t fully in it. In the fourth set I caught myself, raised my level, and by the shoot-off I already knew it was mine. In the end, this competition was completely mental for me — I didn’t win thanks to technique, but thanks to my mindset.”

Three additional Israeli archers competed in the event: Michaela Moshe (Maccabi Tel Aviv) reached the round of 16, where she lost 6–4. Niv Frenkel (Maccabi Tel Aviv) was also eliminated in the round of 16. Shamai Yamrom (Maccabi Rishon Archers) was knocked out in a first-round shoot-off.
